You Can't Fly Forever

I'm like a bird. I like to be in the air. I like to fly. As long as I am flying through life, it's fine.

Right now, it's busy season. I have a tendency to fill every minute because that's what it takes to be successful, right? I just want to say yes to everyone and everything. "Oh, what? you need your senior pictures in two days because you totally forgot that you need to send out your graduation announcements? Sure I can do that." Sometimes, I have to remember that i'm not a superhero and learn to set boundaries. not only for other people, but for myself. I am learning that saying yes all the time isn't conducive to that thing called "happiness".

I'm so afraid, though. I'm afraid that there will come a day when no one wants me. Maybe it's because I know how lucky I am. It almost seems too good to be true. There are so many people out there that want to make money with their art. With every shoot, it's almost like I am proving to everyone that I'm not taking this for granted. Maybe I want to prove to everyone that I deserve this.

But you can't fly forever.

Sometimes I stop and take a look around and I realize that there might be more to life than taking pictures. If I pour everything into being an awesome-sauce photographer and being friends with other photographers, what happens when people don't hire me or God-forbid another photographer doesn't want to be my friend? The whole world ends. I love this work that I get to do everyday. I absolutely love it. Not to sound too hippie-esque, but it feeds my soul and reminds me how great it is to be alive. I know that in order to "make it", I have to give my best to every shoot. I need to be completely there.

Even birds have to be on the ground sometimes. They need the nourishment that the ground offers. As i'm getting older (that sounds really aging), I am realizing that even though I am young, I need rest. Rest = You At Your Best. If you're not at your best, you will never be able to reach your full potential. Biggest thing i've realized lately: Rest now, it will get your mind and soul ready for the next adventure.
